Back To School

Jessa Body Suit// Reformation
Denim// AG " The Legging" Ankle Jeans

Shoes// Jeffrey Campbell Rodillo-Hi Wedge Sandal
Backpack// Harper Avenue Fall! Philip (similar bags by them can be found at Nordstrom)

So....it's basically been forever and a day since i've written a blog post. In the last 6 or 7 weeks I have traveled on average twice a week, and i'm not gonna lie it's been a bit exhausting. I'm in Arizona right now for one of my very best friends wedding, and when I leave I head back to my new home SF and I start an entire new chapter of my life! I literally can't believe that this time next week i'll be in a PhD program, something i've been working towards for so long.

Naturally when I think about my first day of school I automatically start planning out my outfit. You always want to look your best on the first day, but I also always want to be ultra comfy when i'm in school (and I want to prepare for how cold the classrooms ALWAYS seem to be). I'm kind of obsessed with this Reformation body suit, and I've been pairing it with everything from a leather skirt, cut off shorts, and jeans. It just tends to make everything look a bit more chic but it's also so comfortable and easy to wear. My mom picked out this pair of AG "the legging" ankle jeans on a mother daughter shopping trip to Nordstrom this week and I just fell in love with pairing it with a body suit. I like the idea of wearing this to class because I can throw on a leather jacket with it in the classroom to keep warm or a cozy cardigan, and when I get out of class I can take it off and i'm ready to go out for drinks!

I have to be real though, what's even more important for me then my outfit when I think about school is the bag I am going to cary. I used to be a tote bag carrying girl, but found that by the end of the day my shoulder always was kililng me, and it was only a matter of weeks before the bag broke! When I took a few classes at USC two years ago a good friend introduced me to this brand Harper Ave  and I immediately fell in love with how stylish and practical they seemed to be. My first bag from this brand was A Minjun and I have literally used that bag to DEATH. I use it for travel, school, overnight trips, literally everything! I knew that when I started my PhD program it was time to make another investment and purchase a black one and I couldn't be happier with it.

What are some of your back to school must haves?! I have a feeling I may be splurging a bit tonight on Ban.Do for some cute pens and a planner!

New Years Resolutions

Sweater// Free People
Dress// Wonderland Honolulu c/o
Hat// Janessa Leone

Happy New Year!!!!! I hope everyone had an amazing New Years Eve/Day, and didn't struggle to much during the recovery process. I tend to find New Years a bit overwhelming and always choose to stay in watch a movie (Pitch Perfect this year) and order some yummy pizza (Dough Pizza on Sunset Blvd is my new fav). My mom was still in town from our trip to Quebec so she joined my pizza fest, and asked if I had any new years resolutions. To be honest, I'm not a fan of resolutions at all. I don't understand why we wait until the first of the year to try to improve our lives, and usually by day 2 we have broken them anyway. Some of you may or may not know but I moved out to LA in 2011 for grad school. I got my Master's in Clinical Psychology, and when I graduated in 2013 I went to USC for a post bac premed program because I thought I wanted to go into psychiatry. After a miserable year, I was able to admit to myself that medical school was clearly not in my path. I was really scared to leave the program, because I felt like it provided me stability and structure. After a lot of praying, talking to family and friends I decided that, that's what was best. So I left USC and I've spent the last year gaining research experience and doing a lot of volunteer work while applying for doctoral programs. Leaving the program at USC really forced me to step outside of my comfort zone, and I realized how important it is to do that in life. If you don't leave your comfort zone you can miss out on so many amazing opportunities. I've tried to spend the last year actively stepping out of my comfort zone whether it's trying a new food, wearing a new color, taking a trip to a new country, or whatever life throws at me. So I guess my new years resolution is really to just continue doing that!

I'm usually not a fan of body con dresses at all, but when I saw this dress from Wonderland Honolulu I thought this would be a great chance to try something new. It can be difficult to buy clothes online because you're never to sure how it's going to fit. The top of this dress was a bit big on me, so it took me a little while to figure out how I could style it. I thought this Free People cut out shoulder sweater looked really cute over the dress and made the dress easier to transition into a fall or winter piece.

I really can't wait to see what 2015 has to bring. Starting this blog and applying for doctoral programs have been two of my biggest ventures of 2014, and i'm so thankful to all of you who have been so encouraging along the way it means so much to me! Do you guys have anything you'd really love to see on the blog?! Let me know, i'd love to hear! I'd also love to hear what your resolutions are for 2015!!

I have such a deep rooted love for overalls, so obviously I've been so happy that they have made a come back. I've been sporting them since summer 13'. I remember one of the first pair of overalls I had as a child that I literally couldn't live without and continued wearing them even as they were way to short. They were a dark washed long pair with Esmeralda on the front. They were everything!

I've linked a few of my favorite pairs of overalls below! Hope all of you guys have a beautiful Thanksgiving!! I can't wait for all the sweet potatoes my tummy is going to consume.

After a long week of volunteer work, research, and working on grad school applications I had a wonderful weekend with some very close friends. I had brunch on Saturday at an adorable little spot in Venice called 26 Beach. If you're a french toast fan I highly highly recommend it. I had the Monty Cristo French toast and it was unreal, and my coffee was served in a princess mug...so that was a plus. I then spent the evening at Halloween Horror nights at Universal studios, one of my favorite halloween traditions. On Sunday, I ventured into Los Feliz and ate at this cozy little spot called Home. It was nice and cool in the morning so I chose this dark floral blouse and paired it with my faux leather Mink Pink leggings. I got so many comments the last time that I wore this vest that I decided to bring it back! I'm also obsessing over my recent hair cut by the amazing Marissa Marino at Nine Zero One Salon in West Hollywood. If you're looking for a great place to get your hair done I'm convinced they can do no wrong.

If you guys have any posts you want to see or questions feel free to comment below or send me an email! I'd love to hear from you guys. Below i've included links to shop items similar to what I wore.

Mad for Plaid

Coat//Millau (bought at LF Robertson Blvd)
Socks// American Apparel
Shoes// Sixty Seven Shoes
Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I've been really focused on grad school applications. You may or may not know (I really need to make an about me page one of these days...) that I have my Master's in Clinical Psychology and I'm in the process of applying to Clinical Psych PhD and PsyD programs right now. Nothing makes a better application break then playing dress up and figuring out new outfits! Fall season is perfect for layering and experimentation. I'm loving the mixed plaid look, anyway I can rework plaids and flannels is a winner in my book. I also think oversized coats are going to be everything this season.

I would love to hear about your favorite ways to layer this fall!

The midi length skirt and dress is making quite the comeback this fall. I have to admit I was highly skeptical that I was going to be a fan of this new trend. As I saw more and more pictures on instagram and blogs the look began to grow on me, but I was still hesitant that it was going to be a favorite on me. When I headed over to LF on Robertson blvd to check out their new fall collection and play dress up I developed a strong love for this length (there is also a leather midi I have my eye on there).

How do you guys feel about this trend? Love it or Hate it?! Here are a few more midis that I have my eye on.

Black Is The New Black

Top// Top Shop LA
Skirt// LF Robertson
Shoes// Dolce Vita
Left Bracelet// LF Robertson
Right Bracelet// Lucky Brand
Hat// Janessa Leone
Every season I hear that a new color is the new black, but I just want to know why can't black be the new black? Why are we trying to always replace black?! I feel like it's a universal color, I challenge you to name one person that black doesn't look amazing on! Anyways.... I'm sort of obsessed with this black skirt I bought at LF last summer, it looks like the Helmut Lang draped skirt ( but a version I can afford).

My mom is in town visiting me for her birthday, and we went to the Penthouse at Mastros for her birthday dinner. It was one of those nights when everything in my closet seemed unacceptable and I had a pile of clothes growing alarmingly fast on bed. It became clear to me that it was going to be a black on black night.. because black on black never fails me. I was also thankful for the stretchy waist band of my skirt after having lobster mashed potatoes, crab stuffed mushrooms, steak, green beans, and three different desserts. Overall it was a successful evening!

I love this picture of my mom and I. Don't we look so much alike? We ordered a butter cake, and a chocolate pudding cake (like a flourless chocolate cake), and the restaurant was kind enough to give us a chocolate cake on the house in celebration of my beautiful mom.

What are your favorite colors for this fall season? Are you as obsessed with black as me? I'd love to know what you guys like!

Darling Magazine Fall Release Party

I had the opportunity to go to the Darling Magazine fall issue release party in Downtown LA which included music, drinks, photobooths, and best of all brownies and food trucks.  If you didn't know Darling Magazine focuses on empowering women. The fall issue had a very special unique twist, none of the women in the magazine were retouched. I hope that as time progresses we will see more and more magazines following in suit. What a dream it would be for young girls to look at fashion magazines and see people on the cover that look like them and not something completely unobtainable without a bff relationship with photoshop.

One of my very favorite looks that I love constantly recreating is tailored shorts (or skirts) with knee socks and/or tights. Even though it was extremely hot out I couldn't resist this outfit any longer! This love for knee socks with shorts and skirts must come from watching Clueless one too many times (or maybe from attending Catholic highschool...). I completed this outfit with the Alice & Olivia long white vest, because I felt like it polished the look a bit more.

Hope you guys have a beautiful weekend!!

-Xoxo Becca

P.S. In honor of National Suicide Prevention week I challenge each of you to give a compliment to a stranger or commit an act of kindness towards someone you don't know. It's absolutely amazing how these small acts can change someones day or life! I would love to hear about your kind acts in my comment section!
